Registration for youth work camp groups opens on June 1

Registration for Tartu youth work camp groups begins on June 1

Registration for the Tartu Youth Work Camp begins on June 1 and lasts until June 7. To register for the Tartu Youth Work Camp, you must have an ID card and be registered as a resident of Tartu in the population register. For more information about registering for groups, please visit: https://tntk.tartu.ee/tartu-noorte-toomalev/

The aim of the Tartu Youth work camp is to offer a developmental way to spend summer holidays and work experience to young people aged 13-19. Participation in the camp gives young people the opportunity to gain their first work experience in a supported and safe environment. This year, nearly 100 young people will gain camp experience.

The main tasks for youth work camp participants include maintenance work, assistant work in service, on farms, or in event organization. In addition, various developmental joint activities are organized by the group leader. Workplaces include local governments, non-profit organizations, commercial companies, sole proprietors (FIEs), and business organizations. Workdays last 4-8 hours per workday, depending on age and employer's capabilities, and wages are paid for hours worked. Youth work camp groups last 7-21 days, depending on the group.

Important Dates for the Youth Work Camp Summer 2020:

Registration for groups – June 1-7

Opening of the Youth Work Camp Summer – July 3rd in Tartu city center

Tartumaa gathering – August 5-6 at Tartumaa Health Sports Center.

Principles for Youth Work Camp Group Formation:

The wishes of employers will be taken into account, as well as the candidate's ability to participate in the work camp for the entire duration of the camp, first-time registration with the Tartu Youth Work Camp, and gender balance in the group. This year, the order of registration will not be taken into account.

Young people who were not selected for the group in the initial lottery will be added to a reserve list. Should any places become available, new names will be drawn from the reserve list and offered the chance to participate in the youth work camp.

This means ensuring equal access, active participation, and a sense of belonging for all young people. This approach goes beyond merely taking into account differences in origin, gender, abilities, or orientation; it is aimed at removing barriers, expanding opportunities for marginalized and minority groups, and ensuring their full inclusion in all activities.
