Rain Jaaksoo won the Tartu Youth Work Centre's logo design competition
Seven entries meeting the requirements were received for the Tartu Youth Work Centre logo design competition announced in September, and Rain Jaaksoo was declared the winner.
The commission convened by the director of the Tartu Youth Work Center evaluated not only the overall visual appearance of the logo, but also its suitability for the center's objectives, the description of the design prepared by the author, and its compatibility with the general symbolism of the city of Tartu. In the commission's opinion, Rain Jaaksoo's design won the competition by a landslide.
The winning design incorporates several elements, unified by the keywords: youth, growth, development, protection, and Tartu. Although the logo uses elements from Tartu city symbolism, Jaaksoo gives the logo his own meaning by depicting a child stepping under the protection of an umbrella. In the description of his design, Jaaksoo adds: “Figures of different sizes allude to growth and to the fact that the Tartu Youth Work Centre works with children of various ages. The figures move in one direction, indicating progress and development, which the centre facilitates. The umbrella symbolizes the centre and its branches, serving as a place for young people to come, offering shelter both literally and figuratively.”
In cooperation with the logo's author, the logo will be adapted according to the commission's proposals, and the logo will be unveiled during November on the soon-to-be-completed Tartu Youth Work Center website and Facebook page.
The Tartu Youth Work Centre thanks and rewards other authors who participated in the competition: Cristopher Rogotovski (Black Box Theatre pass for two), Laura Mägi (AHHAA Science Centre voucher for two), Patrik Org (Tartu New Theatre gift card for two), and Siiri Tarrikas (Estonian National Museum gift card for two). The competition winner will be awarded a Fujifilm instax mini' polaroid camera.
