Yesterday, January 31, the Ministry of Education and Research, in cooperation with the Education and Youth Board, nationally recognized outstanding individuals and organizations who significantly contributed to the youth sector in 2023. The Tartu Youth Work Camp was named a laureate in the "Youth Work Camp or Camp of the Year" category.
Regarding the Tartu youth work camp, it was highlighted that the camp activities are carried out year-round by the camp's core group, consisting of youth and group leaders. Thanks to the consistency in organizing the youth work camp, it is possible to ensure a new generation of interested young people, which in turn supports the continuation of camp traditions and the emergence of a community of youth work camp enthusiasts who share the camp spirit with their peers. In the Tartu youth work camp, feedback from participating youth and the development of social skills are highly valued.
Margit Kink, director of the Tartu Youth Work Center, pointed out when accepting the award that "the earlier young people gain work experience, the lower the risk of them becoming NEETs. Therefore, the work camp is a unique method in the world for preventing young people from dropping out of education and the labor market. Everyone who honors the traditions of the work camp deserves this title!"
The staff of the Tartu Youth Work Camp is grateful to all partners, group leaders, the diligent core group of the camp, the Tartu City Government, and employers who have helped organize the youth work camp and who all have a part in this recognition.
