The Anneke Youth Center focuses on youth initiatives and a multifaceted approach to taking initiative. At the end of April, Anneke visited Vivistop's creativity accelerator for children and young people in Tallinn's Telliskivi Creative City. We received a very warm welcome there. First, we learned about the opportunities offered by Vivistop, and then we got hands-on. Product designer and workshop master Joonas led a workshop on making wallets from plastic waste. He emphasized the importance of getting hands-on, because that is when interest arises.
First, we melted the material ourselves. There were many choices, as we used various bread bags, labels, and plastic covers from old textbooks, for example. Then we transferred the patterns to the material and cut them out. In the final stage, we used a snap press and added fasteners with different dies.
Joona was right about the crafting, as a creative spirit had awakened in one young person. He was so interested in his surroundings that he wanted to craft more and used a laser cutter to make name tags for his pets. His feedback on the event was very motivating for us, the youth workers, because he wanted to return and spend a full day at Vivita.
The event offered a lot of inspiration and new ideas to all of us. A big thank you to Joonas and Kaidi Mari for hosting us!
