Even though December has just begun, Lilleke's youth room is already prepared for Christmas early!
To be completely honest, the room has been sparkling since the end of November, although a couple of young people thought it was too early to turn on the lights and bring in Christmas trees. Yes, we have two Christmas trees! At Lilleke, we aimed to enjoy this visual delight for at least four weeks.
Even the grey and damp weather of November and December cannot extinguish the sparkle that arises when the first Christmas lights glow indoors and Christmas songs play from speakers, infecting other residents of the house. Often, youth workers can be heard humming Christmas carols to themselves on the stairs.
Of course, not all young people immediately joined in. Many watched skeptically as we started hanging lights around the room and crafting snowflakes. By the end of the day, however, we even got the young people to decorate Christmas trees with us. Gradually, they have started to notice how the room seems to welcome them, and everything feels more homely and peaceful.
The anticipation of Christmas is also reflected in our activities – we decorate, decorate, decorate! We make small gifts for ourselves and our loved ones. We design our own candles,
reuse fabric scraps, and invent ways to give existing items new functions.
In addition, we have set ourselves the goal of baking more in December, because isn't the smell of fresh cookies the best sign of the coziness and anticipation of
? When the smell of cinnamon and butter fills the room, all you need to do to get into the Christmas spirit is sit at the table, drink tea, and eat cookies. Over tea and cookies, you can discuss the most important topics – for example: where do elves live? How can you become an elf? Does Santa Claus always travel with reindeer?
Quotes from young people:
"Gnomes live inside my slipper."
“Elves still live in Lapland, even though they could live in Africa instead. That would be more exciting, and Christmas wouldn't only be in cold places, plus it's already Christmassy there anyway.”
“Santa Claus walks and pulls gifts with a cart.”
"It depends on the gnome; a forest gnome probably still lives in the forest."
Warm and bright Christmas time!
