From January 16 to 20, Tartu Youth Center, in cooperation with Brain Games, held a board game week. The aim of the board game week was to introduce young people to different board games and learn how to play them together so that they could play new games in the youth center in the future.
Various board games were played over the four days, and the week ended with a tournament of the board game chosen by the young people.
During the week, UNO, Lama, Ligretto, Klask, Rummy, and Carcassonne were played. The latter was taught to young people by Brain Games' super cool game masters: Robin, Martin, and Laura.
It also happened that games not planned at all were played, such as Team3. Although initially the game masters were only supposed to teach older young people, the game master from Anne Youth Centre also ended up teaching Carcassonne to younger children.
Anne's parents' youth center became a real hit, with both younger and older participants enthusiastically trying out the new game. Although during the week the young people confirmed that they definitely wanted to have a tournament in the same game, UNO won Friday's vote. A total of seven young people participated in the UNO tournament on the lower floor of the youth center, and Aliis was the winner. In the end, a tournament was held in the Lama game at the younger youth center.
Just like at Anne Youth Center, there were also those at Lille Youth Center who had not previously encountered the board games listed. For example, UNO is mostly known to everyone and a good old classic, but Carcassonne is rather among the newer ones, which Robin, an employee of Brain Games, came to teach and guide us. Finally, the young people surprisingly chose Lama for the Friday tournament, which Eleri won.
At the Ilmatsalu Youth Centre, Klask caused the most excitement. Klask was played almost daily, and it was no surprise when a tournament was requested for this particular game. The games were so lively that the pieces and other accessories had to be closely watched to prevent them from getting lost. Annu emerged as the winner.
Young people enjoyed various games, but generally, the simpler and faster games became the most popular, such as Lama, Ligertto, Uno, and Klask.
But what did the young people learn during this week? They developed analytical skills, quick reactions, and teamwork skills. There were also young people who highlighted that they particularly enjoyed team games, and that more individual board games were not really their cup of tea.
