Lille Youth Cafe on Karlova Home Cafe Day

On Saturday, May 21st, the Lille Youth Cafe was held in the courtyard of the Lille Youth Centre as part of Karlova Home Cafe Day. At the Lille Youth Cafe, delicious baked goods could be enjoyed, and various activities led by youth workers also took place in the courtyard.

The organizing team of Lille Youth Cafe included members of the youth culture club, which was established within the framework of the Digital Cultural Production From Youth to Youth (Diggiloo) project. The young people had done preparatory work to ensure the event reached all interested parties. They filmed a fun advertisement inviting everyone to the youth cafe. Additionally, the work distribution and menu were set, and recipes were found.

The menu was very diverse. It offered both savory and sweet options, snacks as well as more substantial food, and there were also baked goods for vegans. In addition to food, we also offered refreshing lemonade and delicious smoothies. The most popular items were the nutritious Caesar wrap, homemade sausage rolls, and a deliciously summery blueberry cake. All proceeds from the cafe will be donated to support Ukraine.

In addition to enjoying treats, visitors could participate in various activities led by youth workers. In the cafe, there was a craft workshop where jars could be decorated with mosaic patterns. Diverse throwing games also took place, offering a choice to play with balls, darts, or rings. There was also table tennis in the yard, which visitors greatly enjoyed.

Marie, who was responsible for social media, said: “Social media went well; it was interesting, and I gained experience on how to do it better next time.” Feedback from visitors was positive, and everyone really enjoyed the young people's baked goods. Visitor Kendra said: “The cafe was simple but special.”

The cafe was diverse in terms of both its menu and activities. Young people gained a great experience in running a cafe, and visitors had a pleasant and warm experience.

Almost without exception, all participants highlighted today’s fast-paced lifestyle—home,

The Voice of Youth in the Action Plan

Actively involving young people in developing the youth center’s action plan is an important step in fostering their sense of participation and responsibility. Children aged 7–11 are able to successfully express their interests and ideas when provided with a safe and supportive environment. One effective way to do this is through a monthly brainstorming session, during which young people can freely suggest activities and topics. Young people’s opinions matter and have a real impact on the life of the youth center. In addition to the idea generator, it is important to gather ongoing feedback on daily activities to understand what resonates with young people and what needs to be changed. The youth worker’s role here is to guide: to help make ideas more concrete, then link them to an action plan, and involve partners as needed. Even with younger children, simple tools such as voting, drawing, or discussion circles can be used. In a young person’s life, everything changes very quickly: what was relevant two weeks ago
