This summer, a particularly cool group is also active in the Tartu Youth Work Camp – an international youth work camp group. This group brings together young people from Estonia, Spain, Italy, and France for two weeks, working and spending their free time together.
The aim of the Tartu Youth Work Camp is to offer school students aged 13-19 the opportunity to spend their summer holidays in a developmental way, gaining their first work experience in a supported and safe environment. The tasks of the youth work camp group include various activities. For example, the surroundings of Anne Youth Center and Annelinn are jointly tidied – leaves are raked and litter is collected. Litter found in the green areas of the city center, parks along the Emajõgi River, and along roads is also collected by young people to make the urban space cleaner and more pleasant. In addition to collecting litter, young people assist with landscaping work around the Tartu Nature House and the Estonian National Museum, and with tidying Foodsharing food cabinets.
This year, a total of 174 young people from Tartu have gained youth work camp and work experience, with 64 young people in groups outside the city and 110 in urban groups. The 2021 youth work camp summer will conclude next week with the Tartumaa youth work camps gathering at the Tartumaa Health Sports Center.
