On August 6-7, the Tartu County Youth Work Camps reunion took place at the Tartu County Health Sports Center in Elva. Over 160 young people attended, from both the Tartu Youth Work Camp and the camps of Luunja and Kambja municipalities.
The gathering marking the end of the summer camp gave young people the opportunity to get together once more before the start of school, have a good time, and look back on the past summer camp. Together, they competed in various sports, including tug-of-war, relay races, free throws, and volleyball. The camp groups had prepared their own group flags for the gathering and created a unified look for themselves, which was evaluated by a jury on site. All groups performed recitals and songs, which were also evaluated by the jury. This year's theme for the recitals was dedicated to the 30th anniversary of Estonia's independence. After the performances, the band Party In Patrick's Pants took to the stage and the evening ended with a disco.
The winning team of this year's gathering was comprised of young people from Eesti Maasikas I, Maxima III, and Raamatukogu II. The winners were rewarded with the opportunity to represent Tartu at the national youth work camp gathering, which will take place from August 10-12 in Illiklaid, Saaremaa.
This youth work camp season, even more attention than before had to be paid to the safety and health behavior of young people. Camp participants with symptoms of illness, as well as young people and camp staff who had been in contact with a virus carrier, had to stay away from the event. Special requirements had to be followed both in the activities of the gathering and in arranging accommodation. The daily leaders constantly reminded the young people about hand washing and disinfection, and the rules of social distancing. All activities of the gathering took place outdoors, and accommodation in cabins was arranged for 4-5 people at a time.
The Tartu Youth Work Camp is organized by the Tartu Youth Work Center. The aim of the camp is to offer school students aged 13-19 an opportunity to spend their summer holidays in a developmental way and gain their first work experience in a safe environment.
