Tartu, the Youth Capital, Opens a New Playground at the Anne Youth Center

Today, October 2, at 3:00 p.m., a new playground will open in the courtyard of the Anne Youth Center (Uus 56, Tartu), providing younger visitors with more opportunities for active recreation.
The playground is part of the comprehensive plan for the Anne Youth Center’s outdoor area, which is being implemented in phases. Over the next few years, the plan is to develop the entire outdoor area to create a diverse environment for activities that meets the needs of young people of all ages.

In designing the new playground, the primary focus has been on the needs of 7- to 11-year-olds, who make up a significant portion of the visitors to the Anne Youth Center. Until now, the outdoor area has offered more activities for older youth, who have access to a low-level adventure course, a mini-ramp, a basketball hoop, and a table tennis table. The new playground complements the existing facilities and adds variety to the activities available to younger visitors.

However, the goal of developing the outdoor area is not merely to offer young people new opportunities for leisure activities. A diverse outdoor area provides youth workers with better opportunities to take activities outdoors, spend time with young people in their natural environment, and incorporate play, physical activity, and collaborative activities into their youth work.

“I’m glad that the area around the Anne Youth Center is gradually being revitalized and becoming more inviting and lively. This outdoor area provides an opportunity to spend more time outdoors, be active, and engage in activities together. We invite all young people and families to come discover the playground and take advantage of the other opportunities already available in the outdoor area,” said Margit Kink, director of the Tartu Youth Work Center.

Anyone interested can check out the new playground today at the opening ceremony, which will take place at 3:00 p.m. in the courtyard of the Anne Youth Center.
