This week, the President of the Republic Kersti Kaljulaid is visiting organizations and companies in Tartu and Tartu County and also familiarized herself with the Lille Youth Center of the Tartu Youth Work Center.
The management of Tartu Youth Work Center gave guests an overview of youth work in Tartu: current achievements, future directions and goals, and the unique characteristics of youth work in Tartu compared to other municipalities. Bottlenecks in the field were also discussed.
Karl Kraus, who won the title of Tartu Young Achiever of the Year in 2019, and youth center activist Liisa Veddel introduced the activities and opportunities offered at the Lille Youth Center, spoke about why they visit the youth center, and dreamed about what could be even better. The President also participated in a youth center activity and played the WildEst board game with a young person.
During a joint discussion with the president, the young people received answers to their questions from the head of state. The young people were interested in economic topics, such as the funding of science, the IT sector, and the use of smart solutions in Estonia compared to foreign countries. Ronja Juurma asked the president's opinion on what else in the Estonian cultural field, besides choral music, could be equally well-known and prominent on a global scale. In addition to the substantive answers, the head of state gave young people advice on how to contribute to Estonia's well-being and encouraged all young people to always vote now and in the future.
