Since 1999, August 12 has been celebrated worldwide as Youth Day, highlighting the contribution of young people to the development of society. According to the United Nations (UN), young people are not only the leaders of tomorrow, but are already making important changes in society today.
In 2022, the theme of Youth Day is intergenerational solidarity, aiming to amplify the message that achieving the UN's Sustainable Development Goals and implementing its action plan requires cooperation across all generations. In this regard, Youth Day carries the slogan “Creating a World for All Ages”, meaning 'Creating a World for All Ages'. The chosen theme also aims to raise public awareness of age discrimination. Age-related barriers primarily affect young and older people, having a detrimental impact on society as a whole. It is crucial that solving societal problems and developing various sectors is not solely the responsibility of one age group.
The Tartu Youth Work Centre celebrates Youth Day with a party held from 6 PM to 10 PM in the courtyard of the Lille Youth Centre. Throughout the evening, all young people and those young at heart can participate in various workshops (e.g., parkour, crossfit, BMX), craft leather handbags, take part in Psühhobuss activities, and play Brain Games outdoor games. Nassu Youth Café will also be open, offering snacks for purchase, with all proceeds going to the Children's Fund of Tartu University Hospital. On the terrace stage, Sanna will perform at 8 PM, followed by Carlos Ukareda and Andres Estna Duo at 9 PM.
Tartu Youth Day is organized by the Tartu Youth Work Center and supported by the City of Tartu.
