In early February, Mariia Palamarchuk, a foreign volunteer from Ukraine, began working at Tartu Youth Work Centre. Mariia will primarily work at Anne Youth Centre for younger and older youth (Uus 56, Tartu), but will also assist youth workers at Ilmatsalu Youth Centre (Järve tee 8, Tartu), for example. The foreign volunteer's working hours in the youth room are Monday to Friday from 12 PM to 7 PM.
Mariia communicates in Russian, Ukrainian, and English and welcomes all young people to visit and get to know each other better.
Tartu Youth Work Centre has hosted foreign volunteers for a long time, and we have seen a positive impact on both our young people and staff. Therefore, we plan to continue involving volunteers in the future. By integrating foreign volunteers into our daily work, we provide our young people with the opportunity to broaden their horizons both culturally and linguistically, and to better understand cultural and individual differences in society. In mid-February, another foreign volunteer from Portugal will join the Tartu Youth Work Centre team, whose primary workplace will be both Lille youth centres (Lille 9, Tartu) and who will also contribute to the work of Ilmatsalu youth centre.
Volunteers are involved in the work of Tartu Youth Work Center within the framework of the Erasmus+ project “ESC Volunteers at Tartu Youth Work Center 2022-2023”, and the project is supported by the Erasmus+ and European Solidarity Corps Agency from the European Solidarity Corps program.
