Every Wednesday at 3 p.m., Anne's younger target group center hosts activities organized by the Good Mood Club. At least once a month, we conduct meditation sessions, during which young people learn to relax and switch off for a moment.
Sometimes young people are confused about what this activity exactly entails. Indeed, it's difficult to put into words, and easily understandable expressions must be carefully chosen for 7-11-year-old multilingual young people. It has been easiest to explain it through the concept of 'moments of silence,' as young people are more familiar with this from school life.
Headspace's animated films have been a great help, explaining simply and scientifically how to train one's mindfulness, why it is beneficial for us, and what results to expect. Young people have given positive feedback on guided meditation. It often happens that additional sessions are requested for a planned activity, and it's common for three or four guided meditation cartoons to be watched consecutively in one day.
Breathing exercises accompanied by music have also been popular. During this time, everyone forgets their smart devices, takes a comfortable position, and calmly learns to do nothing. Initially, it is difficult, causing challenges to disconnect from the daily hustle. A moment later, once the rhythm is set, relaxing becomes much easier.
In any case, the young people and youth workers at Annekese highly recommend meditation days and breaks!
