On August 12, International Youth Day was celebrated worldwide – a significant day established under the leadership of the UN, aiming to highlight the role of young people in society and draw attention to their needs and opportunities.
On this occasion, a memorable party was held at Lille Youth Centre, where this year's organizing team included young people from both the younger (7–11) and older (12–19) age groups. Each team member had a specific role – some helped with the stage, some with catering, some with the program – and they were supported by guiding youth workers. Such cooperation is important to us because we believe that young people should be given space and trust to have a say and participate in ventures important to them.
The day alternated between rain and sunshine, which added its own color to the event and made it particularly memorable. The equipment also got thoroughly washed by the rain – a few minor glitches were quickly resolved, and the party continued. Visitors were treated to free grilled corn, refreshing mocktails, a rodeo bull, a hobby horse race, and a cotton candy queue that sometimes stretched out of the gate.
The musical experience was provided by Arop, who managed to draw fans to dance in front of the stage even during the heaviest downpour. The success of the day was contributed to by both Tartu city funding and supporters, such as Foodsharing, through whom volunteers were able to enjoy a rich food spread throughout the day.
We would like to thank all the organizers and young people who made this day possible!
