Margit Kink took office as the new director of Tartu Youth Work Centre at the beginning of January, having previously served as the head of Anne Youth Centre.
Margit Kink previously worked for eight years as a continuing education coordinator at the University of Tartu Viljandi Culture Academy and for a year and a half as a cultural specialist at Elva Rural Municipality Government. Kink notes that her practical experience and skills acquired in previous workplaces will support her in her new position. At the Culture Academy, she developed as a person, learned about work culture, teamwork, and taking responsibility, while working as a cultural specialist in Elva, she entered the field of youth work. "I hadn't had much contact with youth work before, but that didn't stop me – I supplemented my knowledge through training and networking and caught up," says Kink. She adds that her experience as an official in Elva helps her better understand the work of local government, as the Tartu Youth Work Center is also a subordinate institution of the city government.
As the new director, Margit Kink first wants to familiarize herself with the specifics of the director's position and learn all the processes she has not yet encountered. "In my opinion, the Tartu Youth Work Center has been diligent as an institution and has developed a lot in three years," she notes with pleasure. "I don't plan to implement major changes initially; rather, I want to continue developing everything that is good and functional."
When asked to reveal something else about herself that no one knows, Kink once again highlights the importance of education and experience. "I have attended school for a total of 22 years in my life. Additionally, I have completed various courses, the total number of which I cannot even say. For me, lifelong learning is very important, and I believe that everyone should continuously improve and develop themselves to be happy and cope in an ever-changing world." Finally, Kink adds that she considers learning one of her main hobbies: "At least from the moment I could choose what I wanted to learn. I try to learn something new every day and I also take failures as experiences through which to grow."
Grete Sarap, the former head of the Tartu Youth Work Centre, has gone on parental leave.
