Ilmatsalu Youth Center overview of Christmas Eve in Ilmatsalu

Overview of the Christmas evening held in Ilmatsalu by Rando-Kristen Kangro, youth work specialist at Ilmatsalu Youth Center. On December 16, 2020, a joint Christmas party took place in the yard of the Ilmatsalu Hobby and Youth Center. The event consisted of three parts: Christmas music played by DJ Kalmer Kuudeberg, fun stories and dances with Christmas Hag Asti, and orienteering. In addition to the aforementioned, a decorated photo corner was set up for visitors to take cheerful photos. There were approximately 50 participants. These included both young people and older individuals. The aim of the event was to involve the local community in shared leisure activities. Despite the anxious times regarding public health, the event was able to take place (and outdoors) by complying with the regulations of the Health Board and the Government of the Republic of Estonia. We were especially pleased with the helpful young people who arrived hours earlier to set up the photo corner...

The Tartu Youth Work Centre recognised active young people.

In early December, the Tartu Youth Work Centre recognized young people from Tartu who had distinguished themselves during 2020. This recognition event for active young people in Tartu was held for the umpteenth year, and all invited participants received awards. Young people who had excelled in Tartu youth centres, the Tartu youth work camp, and volunteered at major city events in Tartu were invited to the event. How to be an active young person? Become a volunteer! This year, the recognition event was held in a slightly different format, with part of it taking place outdoors. All restrictions in force at the time were observed during the event. Starting next week, Tartu youth centers will offer youth work services remotely

The youth rooms at the Anne, Lille, and Ilmatsalu Youth Centers will be closed to youth groups starting Monday, but services for young people will continue. The services and activities offered by the youth centers will move outdoors and online. There will be no group activities indoors starting Monday, but individual activities will take place at the youth centers if necessary, conducted without contact and following the 2+2 rule. Outdoors, Tartu youth centers will offer activities for groups of up to 10 young people. Outdoor activities will initially take place at least twice a week. Activities will range from walks and yard games to bonfire evenings.    However, the activities and services of youth centers are primarily available through social media. Activities take place on Instagram as well as on e-noortekas, which is located on the Discord web platform. Through Instagram, youth centers plan to...

Volunteer Beáta writes: “How to pack a year into 28kg?”

“We discussed and wanted to let you know that we would be happy to accept you for volunteering in Anne youth center! […] Arrival date latest 31st of August!” – I recieved this e-mail on the 14th of August on a Friday, on a very hot day in Hungary. After my first reactions – running up and down in the house, screaming with joy, calling my family members and friends – the despair ran through my brain: okay, but how can I manage to put enough stuff into a big luggage and a travel bag for a year? Because I…

The youth room at Lille Youth Centre is accessible from today via a new ramp

On today's International Day of Persons with Disabilities, Tartu Youth Work Centre is pleased to announce that the youth room at Lille Youth Centre is now accessible to wheelchair users. The installation of the ramp is part of an ongoing innovation program project, which aims to improve the accessibility of Tartu youth centers in every sense. The primary goal of the innovation program is to integrate young people with visual, mobility, and hearing impairments into the activities of youth centers. The innovation program is a long-term undertaking that began in 2017. As part of the project, training sessions have been held for Tartu youth workers, cooperation has been developed with Tartu schools and various organizations, and services and youth centers have been developed. One significant development at the youth centers has been the creation of ramps. The center's youth workers have now been conducting activities and initial...

The innovative, education-minded, and youth-dedicated Tartu Youth Work Center is looking for enthusiastic interns who are motivated by the desire to contribute to the development of Tartu's youth. The Tartu Youth Work Center is a sub-institution of the Tartu City Government's Department of Culture, which began its activities in 2018. Ilmatsalu manager Jaanika shares her thoughts on Mihus' environmental webinar

In the following article, I share my thoughts on the online discussion organized by MIHUS on November 17th, titled 'How to survive the environmental crisis as a world-caring young person? – a point for reflection in youth work.' During that discussion, I recalled a moment that likely influenced my later career choice, which I also want to share with readers. I remember from my school days, sometime during primary school – I don't recall the exact class – when in Tallinn's Old Town, perhaps in the Natural History Museum, there was an exhibition highlighting environmental problems. I don't remember the name of the exhibition either, but I only remember that it resonated with me much more deeply than any article about pollution, contamination, greenhouse gases, etc., or any casual talk heard at school. As far as I remember, it was some kind of traveling exhibition that toured different countries.…

Tartu Youth Work Centre's radio show “Youth Window” is getting a makeover!

The "Youth Window" show, previously broadcast on Ring FM, is becoming a podcast. The podcast will still discuss Tartu youth centers and their activities, including projects written by young people and those aimed at them, city-wide events, international opportunities, and many other exciting topics concerning young people. Guests on the show will include both specialists working with young people and young people themselves! The podcast is an increasingly popular digital media format among both young and old. The new format is also a useful and necessary format in youth work. With podcasts, we could disseminate youth information to a large number of people, involve young people in making podcasts, and offer them the opportunity to develop themselves and express their opinions. If you have good ideas for topics to cover in the podcasts, please let us know!...
