The youth room at Lille Youth Centre is accessible from today via a new ramp

On today's International Day of Persons with Disabilities, Tartu Youth Work Centre is pleased to announce that the youth room at Lille Youth Centre is now accessible to wheelchair users. The installation of the ramp is part of an ongoing innovation program project, which aims to improve the accessibility of Tartu youth centers in every sense. The primary goal of the innovation program is to integrate young people with visual, mobility, and hearing impairments into the activities of youth centers. The innovation program is a long-term undertaking that began in 2017. As part of the project, training sessions have been held for Tartu youth workers, cooperation has been developed with Tartu schools and various organizations, and services and youth centers have been developed. One significant development at the youth centers has been the creation of ramps. The center's youth workers have now been conducting activities and initial...

The Tartu Youth Work Center welcomes interns!

The innovative, education-minded, and youth-dedicated Tartu Youth Work Center is looking for enthusiastic interns who are motivated by the desire to contribute to the development of Tartu's youth. The Tartu Youth Work Center is a sub-institution of the Tartu City Government's Department of Culture, which began its activities in 2018. The center's goal is to create an inspiring and innovative youth work environment for the young people of Tartu, so that they can develop into active, creative, and happy individuals. The center includes three youth centers with different focus areas: Anne, which primarily focuses on youth employment topics; Ilmatsalu, which mainly deals with nature education; and Lille, where health topics are central. The focus areas give interns the opportunity to choose an institution that matches their interests. Why come to us for an internship? - Opportunity to gain very diverse experience working with young people - Opportunity to establish contact…

Ilmatsalu manager Jaanika shares her thoughts on Mihus' environmental webinar

In the following article, I share my thoughts on the online discussion organized by MIHUS on November 17th, titled 'How to survive the environmental crisis as a world-caring young person? – a point for reflection in youth work.' During that discussion, I recalled a moment that likely influenced my later career choice, which I also want to share with readers. I remember from my school days, sometime during primary school – I don't recall the exact class – when in Tallinn's Old Town, perhaps in the Natural History Museum, there was an exhibition highlighting environmental problems. I don't remember the name of the exhibition either, but I only remember that it resonated with me much more deeply than any article about pollution, contamination, greenhouse gases, etc., or any casual talk heard at school. As far as I remember, it was some kind of traveling exhibition that toured different countries.…

Tartu Youth Work Centre's radio show “Youth Window” is getting a makeover!

The "Youth Window" show, previously broadcast on Ring FM, is becoming a podcast. The podcast will still discuss Tartu youth centers and their activities, including projects written by young people and those aimed at them, city-wide events, international opportunities, and many other exciting topics concerning young people. Guests on the show will include both specialists working with young people and young people themselves! The podcast is an increasingly popular digital media format among both young and old. The new format is also a useful and necessary format in youth work. With podcasts, we could disseminate youth information to a large number of people, involve young people in making podcasts, and offer them the opportunity to develop themselves and express their opinions. If you have good ideas for topics to cover in the podcasts, please let us know!...

There are new residents in the premises of Lille Youth Centre: Estonian Youth Mental Health Movement

In September, the Estonian Youth Mental Health Movement established itself in the premises of the Tartu Youth Work Centre. Representatives of the movement describe themselves as an organization that unites young people infected with the motivation bug, whose fondest dream is a society where Estonian youth can grow up in an environment that supports mental health. ENVTLi's activities include advocating for the needs of young people at a societal level and, if necessary, raising their voice (in a polite manner, of course). They also conduct awareness-raising work and offer their members a community where they can receive support and encouragement. Regarding the current state of mental health among Estonian youth, ENVTLi representatives find that there are both good and bad trends. Approximately one-third of young people's daily lives are significantly affected by, for example, excessive anxiety or depressive symptoms, and one-fifth of young people…

A new art and design club has started at Ilmatsalu Youth Center

As you may have read in our previous news, a new volunteer from Spain, Violeta, is working at Ilmatsalu Youth Center. In addition to the cooking club, which takes place on Fridays, Violeta now also runs an art and design club on Wednesdays at 3:00 PM. One of the general ideas of the club is to do various activities related to material reuse. For example, with the young people, we sewed shopping bags and fruit and vegetable bags for the youth center from old curtains and fabric scraps. The bags were immediately put to use when the youth worker bought products from the store for the youth center's overnight stay. Also, the cushion covers in the Xbox room and the flags decorating the youth center are awaiting renewal. The plan is to sew decorations and costumes for Halloween activities. One day, however, the young people spontaneously crafted wonderful small soft animals…
