Starting April 1, 2022, a change will come into effect whereby the Tartu Youth Work Center will shift its focus from young people to young animals. The center will be renamed the Tartu Young Animals Center.
The idea to take a new direction arose in connection with the nature-oriented focus of the Ilmatsalu Youth Center. Similar to the current situation, each center will have a specific theme. Lille Youth Center, with its health focus, will become a comfort animal center; at the nature-oriented Ilmatsalu Youth Center, we expect various birds due to the surrounding bird population; and at the Anne Youth Center, with its workforce and entrepreneurship focus, we expect working animals.
Also, job titles in the institution are changing. Youth workers will become young animal handlers, and street youth workers will become young animal walkers. The minimum qualification requirement for each handler is a Level 4 partial qualification as a young animal handler. The application for the qualification is coordinated by the Estonian Association of Young Animal Handlers.
The former Tartu Youth Work Camp will also get a new look, becoming the Tartu Work Animal Camp starting April 1st. We welcome all young animals to the camp; species plays no role here.
