Who are the youth centers for the younger target group of Tartu Youth Work Centre aimed at?

A year and a half ago, two new youth centers were established under the Tartu Youth Work Center, targeting young people aged 7-11. Affectionately, the youth centers were nicknamed Anneke and Lilleke, because they are located in the very buildings where the Anne and Lille youth centers, intended for an older target group, previously operated. These affectionate names have now become the official names of the centers. We interviewed Elina and Gerda, youth workers from Anneke and Lilleke, and young people Arabella, Kaide-Ly, and Marcus, to learn more about the daily life of these youth centers.     Elina and Gerda, why are youth centers aimed at a younger target group special?  Elina: What makes youth centers for the younger age group special is their focus on creativity and movement: there are few days when they are passive, and they always try to work together…

This year's youth work camp is the Tartu Youth Work Camp!

Yesterday, January 31, the Ministry of Education and Research, in cooperation with the Education and Youth Board, nationally recognized outstanding individuals and organizations who significantly contributed to the youth sector in 2023. The Tartu Youth Work Camp was named a laureate in the "Youth Work Camp or Camp of the Year" category. It was highlighted that the Tartu Youth Work Camp's activities are carried out year-round by a core group consisting of young people and group leaders. Thanks to the consistency in organizing the camp, it is possible to ensure a new generation of young people interested in the camp, which in turn supports the continuation of camp traditions and the emergence of a community of young people interested in the camp who also share the camp spirit with their peers. In the Tartu Youth Work Camp, feedback from young people who participated in the camp and the development of their social skills are highly valued. Inclusion is not an illusion!

This is the title of a four-episode podcast (Eng. “Inclusion is not an illusion”) created as one of the outcomes of the Erasmus+ project “Inclusion is On 2021-2024”. This slogan also aptly describes the entire project, as the inclusion of all young people in leisure activities and society at large, which was the main theme of the project, is not a baseless hope or an unfulfillable dream – one simply needs to expand their knowledge and boldly get started. The project leader was Nuorten Akatemia from Finland, and project partners, in addition to Tartu Youth Work Centre, were The Finnish Youth Association from Finland, Radio- R from the Czech Republic, Federation of Children´s and Youth Municipal Councils from Hungary, Le Discipline from Italy, and Croatian office for Creativity…

Tartu Youth Work Center and friends' workshops in Tartu Christmas Town

In December and January, youth workers could be seen bustling around in the cozy cottage of Tartu Christmas City, organizing diverse workshops for children, young people, and families. Young people themselves were also involved in the organization, coming up with ideas, seeking guests, and planning activities. Young people also conducted workshops themselves; for example, Aliise (14 years old) led a lip balm workshop. Participants could make their own chocolate or cinnamon-scented lip balm from natural materials, which made a lovely Christmas gift for a loved one. In addition, various cooperation partners from all over Tartu visited every day. For example, the Peemot center conducted a badge workshop, where interested participants could design their own cool badges. The Tartu City Museum challenged both the youngest family members and...

Tartu Youth Work Centre staff Kristina, Aveli, Liisa, and Helen participated from November 21-26 in sunny Alicante, Spain, in connection with the well-being project aimed at young people, "ESTEEM - Youth work responses to young people well-being." In addition to Estonia, people working with youth from Spain, Latvia, and Bulgaria also participated in the project. During the project, a well-being themed board game and a mobile application are also being developed. During the meeting, participants got to know each other, gave various presentations, discussed methods supporting mental health, and exchanged experiences between countries.
